Vision and power
An optometrist tests your vision and measures your spectacle power.

Eye pressure
Measured by air puff. Nothing touches the eye.

Dilating drops
If the retina needs to be examined, drops widen the pupils. They take 20 to 30 minutes to work.

Consultation
Dr. H. Siva Mohan Reddy examines the front and back of your eyes and explains what he finds.

Scans, if needed
OCT, retinal imaging or a visual field test is added only if the examination calls for it. The reason is explained first.

Written advice
You leave with a prescription or written advice, and the date of your next check if one is needed.
Who you meet
The front desk, an optometrist who measures your vision and power, and the ophthalmologist, Dr. H. Siva Mohan Reddy, who examines you and explains the findings. If a procedure is advised, a patient counsellor goes through the estimate and insurance with you.
How long it takes
Around an hour. Most of that is waiting for dilating drops to work. After the drops, near vision is blurred and lights seem bright for a few hours, so do not drive yourself home.
What to bring
Your current glasses, earlier eye reports and prescriptions, a list of your medicines, your insurance card if you have one, sunglasses, and someone to accompany you.

A decision is never needed on the first visit. These points are covered with every patient for whom a procedure is advised.
What the examination shows
Your findings and measurements, explained in plain language, with the scans in front of you.
Your options
Every reasonable option for your eye, including waiting and having no procedure. If waiting is reasonable, you are told so.
Risks and limits
The risks that apply to your eye, and what the procedure cannot do. Every operation carries risk, and results vary from person to person.
Recovery and time
How long the procedure takes, what the first days are like, when you can return to work, and when the review visits fall.
A written estimate
Given after your eyes have been examined, with the part your insurance is expected to meet where a policy applies.
Time to think
You can take the information home, talk to your family, or ask for a second opinion. Nothing is scheduled without your signed consent.

Diagnostics
In-house diagnostics, and what each one measures.
These tests are done in the building and read by the surgeon alongside your history. None of them involves a needle, and the scans are painless. A test is added only when your examination calls for it.
OCT
Cross-section scan of the retina and optic nerve. Measures retinal thickness and the nerve fibre layer. Used for macular swelling and glaucoma.
OCT angiography
Maps blood flow in the small vessels of the retina without a dye injection.
Ultra-widefield retinal imaging
A wide-angle photograph of the retina in one capture, including the outer retina. Kept as a record to compare over time.
Automated visual field test
Maps side vision point by point. Shows whether glaucoma has affected the field, and whether that is changing.
Optical biometry
Measures the length of the eye and the curve of the cornea. Used to calculate lens power for cataract surgery and to track eye growth in children.
Corneal topography and tomography
Maps the shape and thickness of the cornea. Used to detect keratoconus and to assess suitability for laser correction.
Air-puff tonometry
Measures eye pressure without touching the eye.
Auto-refraction and keratometry
A computerised starting measurement of spectacle power and corneal curve, refined by the optometrist.
Slit lamp examination
A microscope view of the lids, cornea, lens and, with a hand lens, the retina.
Image-guided cataract planning
Captures a reference image of the eye, used to plan the incision and lens alignment.

The family that has cared for Hyderabad's eyes for fifty years.
As a boy, our founder watched his mother lose her sight, and quietly gave his life to making sure others would not. He helped start one of India's earliest eye banks and carried care to villages through rural eye camps. He was awarded the Padma Shri (1971) and the Padma Bhushan (1977) by the Government of India. In 1975 he founded this hospital, now run by the third generation of his family.

Questions people ask before visiting
Do I need an appointment, or can I just walk in?
Walk-ins are welcome during our hours, Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 14:00 and 16:30 to 19:00. To keep things calm and quick, especially if you are bringing an elderly parent, send us a quick WhatsApp first and we will suggest a time.
Where exactly are you, and is there parking?
We are at 3-5-886, Himayat Nagar Road, beside the Kia showroom, near the Old MLA Quarters, Hyderabad 500029. There is adequate parking on site, and the hospital is wheelchair accessible.
Who is the doctor?
Dr. H. Siva Mohan Reddy, MBBS, DO, DNB (Ophthalmology), is the ophthalmologist at Dr. P. Siva Reddy Eye Hospital. He conducts consultations and performs the surgeries. Your treatment is explained to you at the consultation.

Yes. We examine your eyes, go through your existing reports and scans with you, and explain the findings. You can send your reports on WhatsApp before you visit.

Yes. We care for the whole family, including routine checks for children and a dedicated myopia clinic for rising glasses power in school-age children. If you are worried about your child's eyes, message us and we will guide you.
