LASIK suitability assessment

TL;DR

The assessment measures your eyes and shows whether laser vision correction is suitable for you, which method is suitable, or whether it is not advised.

Quick self-check

Refractive surgery: questions to consider

Six questions, about a minute. This is an information tool, not a diagnosis. At the end it explains what the usual next step is.

Educates, never diagnoses

Who it suits, and who it doesn't

Good candidates often have a stable prescription and a healthy, thick-enough cornea. Some eyes, thin corneas, certain shapes, early keratoconus, significant dry eye, are not suitable, and you are told so at the assessment.

The suitability assessment

We measure corneal thickness and topography with corneal topography and tomography, plus dry eye status and prescription stability, before recommending anything. If you're suitable, we explain LASIK, Femto-LASIK, SMILE Pro, or Trans-PRK plainly. If you're not, we tell you why and what else can help, including ICL, an implantable lens we offer in-house when laser is not the right fit, and corneal cross-linking for keratoconus. Still weighing it up? See our LASIK vs SMILE Pro vs ICL comparison.

Where your care happens

Your suitability assessment, measurements, counselling, and follow-up happen with Dr. Siva Mohan Reddy at Himayat Nagar, and the laser procedure itself is performed by Dr. Siva Mohan Reddy. The details are explained when your suitability is confirmed, and you can contact the hospital before then.

When laser is not advised

If laser is not suitable, or not suitable yet, the alternatives are explained: glasses, contact lenses, or other treatments.

Other services

For children and young people whose power is still rising, see the myopia clinic. The hospital also provides diabetic eye screening.

Frequently asked questions

Is LASIK safe?

For suitable candidates, laser vision correction has a strong safety record. Suitability assessment is how we decide if your eyes are in that group.

Who shouldn't get LASIK?

Thin or irregular corneas, unstable prescription, uncontrolled dry eye, keratoconus, and some other conditions. Laser is not advised when these are present.

Does it hurt?

The eye is numbed with drops. Most people report pressure rather than pain, and any discomfort afterwards is usually mild and brief. What to expect is explained at your assessment.

Will I need glasses again later?

Some patients need glasses for some tasks later in life. We discuss realistic expectations before you decide.

LASIK vs SMILE vs PRK, which is for me?

Depends on corneal thickness, shape, prescription, and lifestyle. A recommendation is made only after your eyes are measured.

Who performs the laser procedure?

Dr. H. Siva Mohan Reddy performs the laser procedure. The details of the day are explained to you once your suitability is confirmed.

What if I am not suitable for LASIK?

When laser is not suitable, for example with thin corneas or high power, ICL (an implantable lens) is an alternative that may be considered, and it is available in-house. It is explained at your assessment if it is suitable for your eyes.

What does LASIK cost in Hyderabad?

It depends on the method suitable for your eyes, which is known only after they are measured. A written estimate is given after the suitability consultation. You can contact the hospital on WhatsApp or by phone.
