Patient guide
Everything a patient or family member usually asks, in one place: how to prepare for a visit, what each test involves, what each procedure is and what its limits are, how recovery usually goes, and the practical facts about the hospital.
The pages are written in plain language and reviewed by the hospital's doctor. They are general information. What applies to your own eyes is decided at an examination.
Before your visit
What to bring, how long to keep free, and what happens from the reception desk to the doctor.
Tests explained
What each test is, why it is done, what you will experience, and what the result can and cannot tell.
Procedures explained
Who each procedure is for, what happens on the day, recovery, and the risks and limits.
After your procedure
General recovery guidance. Your own written instructions from the surgeon always take priority.
Practical information
The hospital as plain facts.
Questions answered by the doctor
Longer answers to single questions, such as when cataract surgery is due or what a normal eye pressure is, are in the Ask the Surgeon articles.
When something feels urgent
Sudden loss of vision, a sudden shower of new floaters or flashes of light, a curtain or shadow across the vision, a painful red eye, or an injury to the eye should be examined the same day. During OPD hours, call 80966 65550. The hospital is a daytime OPD clinic. When it is closed, go to the emergency department of a 24-hour hospital.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an appointment?
An appointment helps the hospital plan your visit. You can request one through the appointment form, by phone on 80999 50055 or 80966 65550, or on WhatsApp. OPD hours are Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 2 PM and 4:30 PM to 7 PM. The hospital is closed on Sunday.
How long should I keep free for a first visit?
Plan for about an hour. If your eyes are dilated for a retina examination, or scans are needed, the visit takes longer, because dilating drops need 20 to 30 minutes to work.
Can I drive home after an eye examination?
If dilating drops are used, near vision is blurred and lights feel bright for a few hours. It is sensible not to drive yourself home. Bring sunglasses and, if you can, someone to accompany you.
Where do I find instructions for after my surgery?
General guidance is on the After your eye surgery page. The written instructions the surgeon gives you on the day are specific to your eye and take priority over general guidance.
Is this guide a substitute for seeing a doctor?
No. These pages are general information. They cannot tell you what is happening in your own eyes. That needs an examination.
